The new Insurgent is a heavy-hitting trail bike that’s designed for maximum fun, but what’s new on the v2 model? MX (29/27.5) or full 27.5” This time around, Evil decided to give riders more options by offering both an improved 27.5” model as well as a mixed-wheel (MX) model with a 29er up front and 27.5 in the back. The 27.5” Insurgent is built for the bike park and freeriding, and the MX version is more inclined for enduro, downhill, and extra aggressive trails. 18mm more travel The rear travel has been increased from 150mm to 168mm on both models, allowing you to go even harder with more confidence and control than ever. The seat tube angle is also slightly steeper at 76.5 degrees in the LOW flip chip setting and 76.0 degrees in X-LOW. The steeper seat tube compliments the longer reach and allows you to maintain an efficient pedalling stance when seated. Frame Updates The 2021 Wreckoning has some great frame updates that you’ll love. First, Evil updated their internal cable routing system for easier installation, less interference, a cleaner look and a quieter ride. The rear end of the frame has also been updated to Super Boost + 157mm spacing, providing a stronger, faster ride. To achieve a complementary climbing ability for this leg-powered DH bike, the leverage curve has been revised, starting with the high-end leverage to maintain that supple, smooth pedaling feel we all love so much. As the leverage decreases slowly through the mid stroke, it provides a ton of efficient support to push against while the end stroke sees the lowest leverage. What this means for you is a 166mm bike that feels like 200mm. An extra 5 millimetres never made such a difference. Soft and plush is all good, but anyone who's been halfway through a rowdy, rock-strewn chute knows the value of stiffness too. The Wreckoning utilizes 157 Super Boost, the new standard of rear axle spacing for any rider who takes shred seriously. Add in the unified rear triangle and you're ensured a firm AF frame when the going gets capital “G” good gawd gnarly. Saving weight means little without retaining an appropriate level of stiffness and responsiveness too. So we've taken all the acceleration and out-of-the-saddle sprint qualities of a carbon XC race rocket and fused them with a rear-end that still rails corners like a hardcore trail bike. This unique XC-trail attitude is also reflected in the geometry. The head tube angle (67.1 degrees) and reach (425mm) are a little steeper and shorter than a Joplin to meet the demands of aggressive climbing, yet the Wilder's seat tube angle is a touch slacker and the chainstays a little longer than a Joplin too in order to retain that familiar Juliana confidence on descents. And talking of chainstays, each chainstay length is specific to the individual frame size; meaning riders of every height enjoy the same handling and performance no matter what. The new lower-link mounted shock configuration opens up greater possibilities for maximum bump performance, a supportive mid-stroke, and a barely detectable bottom out. It’s like our most capable all-around bike just had a set of afterburners bolted on. With 150mm of VPP travel on 27.5-inch wheels, the Bronson continually rides the sharp edge between agility and stability.
